As nations, societies and businesses become more interconnected, global issues such as peace and security, environmental problems, immigration, and economic development are gaining in importance. Our degree in global affairs gives you the skills and real-world experience to tackle these issues, no matter your career goals.
The global affairs major is a flexible, interdisciplinary program that draws on the methods and insights of many social sciences, history, political science, economics, geography, sociology and the arts. It is informed by Catholic social teachings and provides a rich intellectual framework for the understanding of global issues.
Sacred Heart has many international partnerships and connections with governments, NGOs, universities and corporations around the world. Students can use these relationships to gain valuable internships and study abroad opportunities. These experiences provide more than just a boost to your resume—they help you build confidence, make connections and figure out what kind of impact you want to have in the world.
The program includes a Capstone Project that allows you to apply your academic training to a problem relevant to global affairs. In this unique course, small groups work as a policy task force to solve a specific global issue. It is a unique opportunity to develop practical skills in teamwork and leadership, as well as an ability to communicate the results of your research. Students may choose to complete a capstone in the fall of their senior year, or in their final semester.
