Global climate change has become an urgent issue that receives high attention throughout the world. In recent years, many significant developments have occurred in the global response to this problem. One of the main developments is the increasing commitment of countries to reducing carbon emissions. Many countries have set net-zero goals, with a focus on drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. For example, the European Union plans to achieve net-zero by 2050, while China is committed to reaching peak emissions by 2030 and net-zero by 2060. Additionally, the 2015 Paris agreement has laid a new foundation for global cooperation in tackling climate change. Member countries pledged to report on their progress in achieving emissions reduction goals. Although challenges remain, there have been several positive outcomes from this agreement, including increased investment in renewable energy and green technologies. Investments in renewable energy technologies, such as solar and wind power, are also showing an increase. Last year, the renewable energy sector recorded strong growth, with total global capacity reaching more than 2800 GW. Energy storage technologies, such as lithium-ion batteries, are increasingly efficient and affordable, enabling better integration of renewable energy into the electric grid. On the other hand, scientists are now focusing more on adaptation to the perceived impacts of climate change. Research shows that some regions, especially vulnerable ones, need to develop comprehensive adaptation strategies. This includes building climate-resilient infrastructure, protecting water resources, as well as sustainable agriculture that can withstand extreme conditions. Raising public awareness is also an important part of recent developments. Many global campaigns, such as “Fridays for Future”, involve young people in protests demanding more action from world leaders. Society is increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability, encouraging companies to carry out greater corporate responsibility and be more environmentally friendly. At the local level, several cities around the world are implementing innovative environmentally friendly policies, including increased green space, more efficient public transportation, and reduced waste. Some cities, such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen, have become examples of the use of bicycles and electric vehicles to reduce emissions. Scientific developments in understanding climate change also continue to grow. Recent research suggests that the impacts of climate change could take effect much more quickly than previously thought, with aspects such as the melting of the Greenland ice sheet, which could lead to dramatic sea level rise in the near future. At the same time, issues of social justice are starting to be paid attention to, considering that the impacts of climate change are often uneven. Developing countries and vulnerable communities are the most affected, even though their contribution to global emissions is very low. A more inclusive and equitable approach to responding to climate change is now increasingly important. Finally, collaborative networks between countries, non-governmental organizations and the private sector are increasingly strengthening international cooperation in dealing with climate change. Various reports, such as the IPCC Climate Change Report, continue to facilitate dialogue based on scientific evidence to encourage real action in mitigation and adaptation efforts.
